Patagonia's Mission Statement is simple: Build the best product, do no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. This is a philosophy that really appeals to us at High Sports so not only do we recommend Patagonia as a company that provides extremely well made gear, but we highly respect their attempts to operate in a similar fashion to ourselves: being aware of their effect on the environment and trying to limit or remove any negative effects that are produced via the running of their business. Patagonia's values reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted. The approach they take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility. For Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of our planet. They donate their time, services and at least 1% of their sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups all over the world who work to help reverse the tide. We're not going to claim that Patagonia is the best company in the world or necessarily the best product for every particular job, but this ethos they have established makes it possible for us to highly recommend their intentions in an industry filled with massive companies only interested in their profit margins. Patagonia are aware that their business activity – from lighting stores to dyeing shirts – creates pollution as a by-product. So they work steadily to reduce those harms. They use recycled polyester in many of their clothes and only organic, rather than pesticide-intensive, cotton. Staying true to their core values during thirty-plus years in business has helped them create a company which we not only are happy to promote, but strive to join them in their endeavours on our own local scale.
